ETHICAL FEMINIST ART
It all started when I declared myself and the label as feminist and Yogitown became YONITOWN.
The process involved lots of self-inquiry and study in the women's equality movements that always have been present throughout history.
These 3 words are the core values of the label: Courage, Ethical and Purpose.
I chose courage as my close companion and as a pillar for the new chapter of Yonitown because declaring myself as a feminist was not easy. I was full of doubts and uncertainty about what was going to happen if I presented against what was most comfortable. In the beginning, I was and angry feminist fueled with rage, I got tired of explaining and excusing myself for what things were done differently. Along the way, I realized that education and inclusivity was the best way to create change.
I intend to speak up and to spread encouragement to those who are still silenced.
Our commitment is that in every step of the supply chain we choose the most sustainable alternative for the environment. The materials used in our pieces are plant-based, and whenever possible they are organically grown. We also search for ‘dead stock’ materials and fabrics, this is a term created by fast fashion to label what has been discarded due to changes in trends, we find this material to bring them back to life.
Our tees are organic cotton and certified ethically made by the Fair Wear Foundation.
Yonitown exists as a call to reflect and question the belief system we all live in. My art is how I contribute to dismantling the patriarchy. It is my attempt to create an inclusive invitation to accept the feminine energy into our lives despite our sexuality, age, race, species, or social class.
My motive comes from the heart, I do it invoking courage as a sacred act where many others can feel recognized and empowered.
